Dr. P. K. Warrier Advice for Fighting Coronavirus

One of the most senior Ayurvedic experts of our time, Padma Bushan Dr. P.K. Warrier the Managing Trustee and Medical Director of the 118-year-old Arya Vaidya Sala, Kottakkal, India talks briefly on the Ayurvedic potential for the current coronavirus pandemic.

Dr. P. K. Warrier suggests maintaining a therapeutic diet that maintains optimal energy while boosting the immune system. Eat light wholesome foods like fruit, fruit juice, tender coconut water, buttermilk, and kanji (rice gruel with black pepper and ginger). Black pepper and ginger offer anti-viral and mucolytic activity as well as improve digestive capacity and may be taken 2 or 3 X’s per day.

Other recommendations suggest mixing 10 grams of ginger with 10 grams jaggery, taken in divided doses 3 -4 X’s per day. Also, use black pepper instead of red chili in vegetable soups for its important anti-viral activity. These recommendations will help healthy people from the onslaught of infections.

Dr. P. K. Warrier Suggests Two Kottakkal Products:

Nimbamritadi Panchatiktam Kashyam contains five important tikta or bitters that balance both pitta and kapha. It detoxifies the blood and helps to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.

Five Bitters:

  • Nimba - Neem - Azadirachta indica
  • Amrita – Guduchi - Tinospora cordifolia
  • Vrisha - Justicia beddomei
  • Patola - Trichosanthes cucumerina
  • Nidigdhika - Solanum virginianum

Hingula Bhasma Capsule – useful for indolent ulcers, genitourinary tract infection, respiratory infections, benign and malignant neoplasms.

To keep the body pure will definitely prove to be beneficial as hygiene is considered one of the foremost in controlling the spread of infection. Health management is self-responsibility, whereas disease management is the responsibility of the physician.
