The application of herbal oil is the heart of Ayurvedic treatment. Oiling the body is a great way to keep the skin soft, supple and beautiful. Herbal oil massage offers great benefits; it normalizes vata and pitta, increases immunity, strengthens bones and muscles, nourishes skin cells, increases longevity, improves the quality of vision, speech, and sleep. It is simply anti-aging.
The most beneficial application of herbal oil is daily self-massage. The regular practice of applying herbal oil before a warm shower or bath is anti-aging. Begin by massaging the lower extremities, work your way up the body toward the heart, shoulders, and arms. Massage with long circular motions for 5 - 10 minutes, and more if you have time. The warm shower or bath helps the oil penetrate. Be sure to use an all-natural soap and completely wash off the oily residue, then towel dry.
Massage and the application of oil plays a vital role in the Ayurvedic system of healing. Occupational-therapy is achieved in Kerala by the scientific method of massaging. New types of massages known as effleurage, petrissage, and tapotement cannot yield as good results as the Kerala massages.
There are four specialized rejuvenation treatments in Kerala; they are Dhara, Mukkipizhichal, Navarakizhi, and Sirovasti. These treatments offer excellent results for many conditions of paralysis, sciatica, and mental disorders, hysteria, insanity, etc.
Gulikas and vatikas are produced by grinding the raw materials into a fine paste, they are then formed into pills or tablets. Pills for internal use may be mixed with lukewarm water or any other prescribed liquid substance as directed by an Ayurvedic Doctor.
